We did it!
After a year of planning, meetings and fundraising, Patchogue hosted Long Island’s very first Ball Ceremony to ring in 2015! Midnight on Main St. was held on Wednesday, December 31 from 8 – 9 p.m. at Capital One Bank Plaza in Patchogue, with more than 2,200 attendees! Saying “a great time was had by all” is an understatement!
While we originally planned this to be at midnight, in working with the Village and all our local public safety agencies, we adjusted to an earlier time. And you know what? It worked amazingly well.
Proving Patchogue is ahead of it’s time, the adjusted time actually attracted hundreds of families looking to experience a New Year’s celebration with their children, as well as those who used this event as the starting point to an entertaining New Year’s evening in downtown Patchogue, visiting the many local bars and restaurants after the event that were bustling with energy. The atmosphere in Patchogue New Year’s Eve was electric!
I want to thank all of the members of the Midnight on Main Street Committee, in particular Committee Chair Gerry Crean, for seeing this through and providing us what we now plan on making an annual community event.
Thanks also go out to Signarama and Northstar Signs & Neon for creating the Patchogue New Year’s Eve Ball that in a few years will become a recognized Patchogue icon. Much appreciation to Capital One Bank for allowing us the use of their property, PSA Security for helping us maintain a safe environment, DJ Jay Letterman and Bold Entertainment for providing the soundtrack and, of course, Fireworks by Grucci for the spectacular pyrotechnic display.
Above: DJ Jay Letterman entertained the crowd of thousands.
Further, this event would not have been possible without the financial support of our sponsors. We are most grateful to: Blue Point Brewery who provided the majority of the funding; the Christmas ‘n Patchogue Committee for funding the Grucci Pyrotechnics; as well as all our other major sponsors…Economic Opportunity Council of Suffolk, Patchogue Business Improvement District, Blum’s, ServPro of Patchogue & That Meetball Place; plus all those in the community who donated what they could via our Kickstarter Fundraising Campaign. I also want to recognize the immense cooperation we received from our community partners, without whose help we could not have made this happen. Thank you every one working for the Village of Patchogue, especially: Mayor Paul Pontieri, Chief Building Inspector Peter Sarich, DPW Commissioner Joe Dean and his staff, the Patchogue Fire Department, Patchogue Ambulance Company, Suffolk County Police and Suffolk Legislator Rob Calarco. All of the above played a huge role in making the event a reality. Now we want to hear from you! Help us plan to make this event even better. Let us know your thoughts, opinions, and suggestions by commenting to this blog and our committee will consider all as we plan for next year. Until then: Happy New Year 2015!!
